Spicy Italian Sausage Roll

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. spicy Italian sausage
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 (13.8 oz) can of refrigerated classic pizza crust dough
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, for topping

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the sausage over medium-high heat. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the red and green bell peppers, onion, garlic, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface to a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Spread the sausage mixture over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  6. Roll the dough tightly to form a log, sealing the edges.
  7. Place the roll seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Brush the roll with beaten egg and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
