- 1 box chocolate cake mix
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Chocolate glaze or chocolate chips (optional)
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and 1 cup of water. Mix until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to the cake mix mixture and mix until just combined. Stir in the warm water and vanilla extract.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- To make the filling, beat the butter in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Slowly add the powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla extract, and continue beating until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Once the cakes are cooled, place one of the cakes on a cake plate and spread the filling over the top. Place the second cake on top of the filling.
- Optional: Melt some chocolate chips in microwave and pour it over the cake to make a chocolate glaze or you can use pre-made chocolate glaze.
- Let the cake chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
