Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup vegetable shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the vegetable shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and milk together.
- Add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until the dough comes together.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for a few minutes.
- Roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness.
- Cut the dough into strips, then twist each strip and form into a ring.
- In a deep fryer or large pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Fry the crullers in the hot oil for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Drain the crullers on paper towels.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
